What Is A Forester?

A certified forester is a professional with a degree in Forestry, has been tested, and has to follow a code of ethics. Foresters specialize in managing forests and forest ecosystems based on science and set identified goals.

One of the main services foresters provide is timber sale administration and assistance. A forester helps you perform a sustainable, economical, and legal harvest that preserves the overall health of the forest and ensures that your interests are taken care of. A forester works for you to get you the best price for your timber.

Now, a forest is not just its trees — a forest is everything that grows and lives inside of it. This is where habitat management comes into play. Whether you’re managing for deer, turkey, pollinators, or even something specific like the endangered Karner blue butterfly, these are all things a forester can help you with. We use different habitat practices and strategies to best suit the needs of the wildlife on the property. A forester will come to evaluate your land, take stock of what resources and features are present, and develop strategies founded in science and experience to reach your goals.

Another large part of what we do is help navigate and implement various conservation programs. Property tax programs, NRCS Environmental Quality Incentive Program (QIP), Conservation Stewardship Program, Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP), Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). These are just some examples of the kinds of things we can help with, and there are many more out there that cover a large variety of needs.

There are many different things a forester can help you do, and if you’re unsure that we could help you with your goals, just give us a call, shoot us a text, or email. We are always happy to answer questions!
